Testing and Certification
With all lifting equipment it is important that it is fit for purpose and safe to use. For new equipment it is essential that it is designed correctly with calculations carried out by a qualified engineer however for the end user the best way of proving suitability is through testing and certification. For all lifting equipment there are two main types of certification and testing; Thorough Examination and Load Testing.
A report of thorough examination must be supplied with any item of lifting equipment or any lifting accessory prior to its first use. This is a requirement of the LOLER regulations and constitutes a visual inspection being carried out by a competent person to confirm no defects are present that could be detrimental to the operational safety of the equipment. Although this includes all new crane installations, it also includes any that are refurbished, modified or moved. In some cases this may also include cranes that have been heavily modernised. Upon successful completion of a thorough examination, a report of thorough examination is issued and should be kept by the customer for as long as the crane is in situ. The equipment will then need to be re-examined again at a time not exceeding 12 months of the date of the initial examination. This process should then become a regular annual occurrence.
In addition to the obligations of LOLER there is also responsibility to comply with any other requirements of any standards worked to during the manufacture or supply of lifting equipment or relevant to its location and use. British Standards require that cranes and jibs be proof load tested upon installation and prior to first use. Each type of lifting equipment has its own testing procedure to verify suitability and Granada’s customers can be confident that any load testing carried out is done by competent, experienced engineers and overseen by trained and qualified managers.
In addition to testing equipment we manufacture we also provide testing services for our customers. Whether these be carried out on site or at our testing facility we have helped to test and certify a wide and diverse range of customers products and equipment including: lifting beams, work benches, vessels, etc.
If you have product or equipment you would like advice on having tested please contact our service team who will be pleased to help.
Load Rope Test Certification.
As with any load testing and proof load testing, it is a requirement that any load rope supplied new with equipment or retrofitted as part of planned maintenance, be supplied with a test certificate to prove that the rope is suitable and has been tested.
Sling and Lifting Accessories Test Certification
When any item of lifting equipment is supplied, no matter how small, it must come with relevant certification. All loose lifting gear and lifting accessories supplied by Granada come with a test certificate to prove it is suitable and safe to use. This is the case whether it be a hundred bespoke lifting beams or a pair of collared eyebolts.
Declaration of Conformity
Most new products must be supplied to end users with a certificate called a Declaration of Conformity. A declaration of conformity is a formal declaration by a manufacturer, or the manufacturer’s representative, that the product to which it applies meets all the relevant requirements of all the applicable safety directives to that product. It is a sign that a product has been designed and constructed for compliance and has been through an appropriate conformity assessment process. A Declaration of Conformity is not a quality certificate, nor a guarantee for safety. However, when properly drawn up along with CE marking on the product, conformity of the product with the Directive(s) quoted on the Declaration of Conformity may be presumed by suppliers in the distribution chain and by the end customer, provided there are no obvious or known defects.
All cranes and lifting equipment manufactured by Granada are supplied CE marked with a signed declaration of conformity.
All overhead cranes and lifting equipment manufactured by Granada come with all applicable and relevant certification as detailed above. All load ropes fitted during service and repair works are supplied with this certification as should be expected. Granada’s Nexus system, which is free to all customers with a service agreement, keeps an electronic copy of every test certificate ever issued and these can be accessed securely online from any web browser.
Our service engineers are trained and experienced to competently and efficiently install, test and certify all types of lifting equipment, even if the equipment is/was not supplied by Granada.
